Walls come tumbling down!8.00.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Mon 7th Apr 2008
The residents of flats 14-19 Selaby House, Spring Hill, heard a loud rumbling noise on the night of February 29th. They woke up the next day to an amazing sight. Two 8 feet high walls around the outside bin area had completely collapsed, blown down in a gale. Council workers quickly knocked down any unstable remains of the walls to make them safe. Residents asked North Road Ward Lib Dem Councillor Fred Lawton for help when there was no further action or information by 10th March. Fred was unhappy that the site had not been cleared of rubble. He also noticed that walls surrounding the other two bin areas did not look secure. He asked the Council to take urgent action. Engineers reported that the walls round all the bin areas had a structural defect. All the walls will be rebuilt to a new, stronger design, recycling the existing bricks. By the time you read this, the rebuilding should have been completed.
